The passing of the Whakarewarewa and Roto-a-Tamaheke Vesting Act 2009 has provided for iwi to participate in a mana whenua determination process to determine final allocation of the lands amongst Ngāti Whakaue and Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao, once the land is vested in iwi. Mana whenua discussions will be between Ngāti Whakaue and Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao.

Te Puni Kōkiri is an independent party to the mana whenua determination process. Hui to provide information for Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao on the mana whenua determination process will be held on 10am Sunday 20 June 2010 at Wāhiao House, Te Pākira Marae, Whakarewarewa Village. All members of Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao are invited to attend the hui.
