Performance Improvement Framework

Wednesday, 22 September 2010

This year Te Puni Kōkiri participated in the first round of the Performance Improvement Framework (PIF). PIF is a way of assessing an agency’s performance and capability, and to identify priority areas for development.

It rates an organisation on a number of elements including its delivery of government priorities and core business, and its capability in leadership and strategy, external relationships, people development and financial and resource management.

Overall the review has shown that Te Puni Kōkiri has strong leadership and is well run operationally.

We have also prioritised the following as areas for further development:

  • improving our strategic capability to enable us to play a more proactive leadership role in cross agency and sector wide policy formulation;
  • including in the next stage of our “Priority Alignment Review” work that will focus on reviewing our current work priorities to ensure we have the right capability and resource to deliver these priorities
  • paying an increased level of attention to people development and performance management of individual staff, and finding ways of rewarding good performance that are not solely based on increased remuneration; and
  • increasing focus on effectiveness and efficiency assessments to ensure maximum value for money is achieved and informed judgements are made on alternative delivery options at a time of static or reducing baselines.

Please read the full report and my overview of the PIF report for more information.

I would like to personally acknowledge all the people who were involved in the PIF process, particularly those who were interviewed, both Te Puni Kōkiri staff and our external stakeholders.
