Waikato: Te Ahurei a Rangatahi

Te Ahurei a Rangatahi is a youth health promotion and education organisation that has been delivering positive programmes and information for rangatahi since 1997. Since its inception Te Ahurei a Rangatahi has developed a strong working relationship with Te Puni Kōkiri to support rangatahi development. Recently Te Puni Kōkiri supported Te Ahurei a Rangatahi’s successful holistic health day. “It was a primo day for all our community from kaumātua to our rangatahi and tamariki,” says Te Ahurei a Rangatahi project co-ordinator Justeena Leaf.

“Our kaupapa is about whānau ora, the well-being of our families; for us to help and support rangatahi we work with our whānau. The day was about bringing together families, the community and Hamilton under the umbrella of kotahitanga,” she says.

More than 300 people attended the holistic health day with more than 30 stalls, workshops, kai and entertainment for the whole whānau.

“Te Ahurei a Rangatahi has developed a well-earned reputation for positive rangatahi development, from mentoring to health and well-being services in Kirikiriroa since its inception,” says Te Puni Kōkiri’s regional director, Gail Campbell. “Their passion and commitment to all Māori and all our rangatahi are absolutely top class,” she says.
