Te Puni Kōkiri (Ministry of Māori Development) is a public sector agency that works within government and communities to achieve our vision of Thriving Whānau.

The wellbeing of whānau, hapū and iwi is central to the future wellbeing of Aotearoa (New Zealand). The very broad role of Te Puni Kōkiri, our access to information, and our ability to make connections make us ideally placed to spark innovation and make a difference to the lives of all New Zealanders through Māori development.

As a Senior Advisor, Communications, you will be a modern and experienced communications practitioner - well versed in social media and communicating to wide-ranging audiences. You will:

  • Develop and implement communications plans that align to the wider Te Puni Kōkiri communications strategy
  • Promote success stories and case studies on all of our channels
  • Distribute key information on investment funds to whānau
  • Support our Ministers through speech writing and media engagement
  • Oversee the production of top quality digital content
  • Oversee and deliver communication campaign
  • Provide strategic communications advice to various client groups within the organisation.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, or at least 5 years’ experience, in communications and/or marketing and /or journalism
  • Online and social media experience with use of Adobe suite an advantage
  • A strong understanding and working knowledge of the machinery of government
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience and expertise in communications tools and techniques
  • Understanding of Te Ao Māori  and a degree of fluency in te reo Māori
  • Well-developed relationship management skills to work with a broad range of people including senior management, staff, external media and external contractors
  • Experience in working with Iwi, hapū, whānau, Māori organisations and Māori communities
  • Comfortable in working in a Tikanga / kaupapa Māori environment.

While your role will be based in the Te Puni Kōkiri national office you will also be required to travel to support our regional teams.
