Te Paepae Matua mō Rongoā is a national collective of rongoā Māori practitioners made up of kaumātua, pakeke and practitioners of traditional rongoā Māori. Recently they held their national hui, and discussions included standards for practitioners, best practice, intellectual property issues and the establishment of a legal entity for Te Paepae Matua. Ko ngā tawhā o Te Moana a Toi ka heke mai i Athnree ki te raki ki Lotten Point ki te tonga. Kei roto i tēnei rohe e rima ngā kaunihera ā-rohe –Tauranga, Whakatāne, Bay of Plenty, Ōpōtiki me Kawerau. Ko Environment Bay of Plenty te kaunihera ā-rohe.
E ai ki te tatauranga taupori o 2006, 40,899 ngā Māori kei tēnei rohe e noho ana. Koira te 7.2 ōrau o ngā Māori katoa o Aotearoa.
12 ngā iwi kei tēnei rohe. 80 ngā hapū kei te whai hononga ki aua iwi. 120 ngā marae. Ko ngā waka o ngā hapū me iwi nei ko Mataatua, Takitimu, Te Arawa me Tainui.
