Long-term Insights Briefing 2023

The Long-term Insights Briefing (LTIB) provides the public with information about medium and long-term trends, risks and opportunities that affect or may affect Aotearoa and our society. This includes information that could support policy analysis for responding to those insights.

We hope that by 2040 all whānau are thriving – on their own terms. What could the future for whānau and Māori communities look like in 2040? This is the question at the heart of the Long-term Insights Briefing.

Te Puni Kōkiri released this Long-term Insights Briefing in 2023. On 3 June 2026, amendments to the Public Service Act 2020 mean there is no longer a requirement for each agency to produce individual LTIBs.

Instead, the responsibility now sits with the Chief Executive of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) who must publish a LTIB at least once every three years.
