The Local Government (Auckland Law Reform) Bill provides for the establishment of a Māori Statutory Board; that is independent of the Auckland Council, and which is intended to ensure that the Auckland Council takes the views of Māori into account when making decisions.

Te Kotahitanga o te Whakahaere Rawa

In late 2004, Derek Fox and a Te Puni Kokiri analyst travelled to six regions throughout New Zealand and met with selected Māori groups, hapu and iwi, and the corresponding regional and territorial authorities. The purpose of the meetings was to discuss how Māori engage with councils under the RMA and any issues that affect that engagement. This report presents the key findings of those meetings, and gives both a regional overview and summaries of individual regions.
