Civil Defence payment
If you and your family are affected by an emergency event (e.g. earthquake or flooding) and a Civil Defence emergency has been declared, or the event meets the guidelines for a Civil Defence emergency, you may able to get a Civil Defence payment. You don't have to be on a benefit to qualify for a Civil Defence payment. In most cases it doesn't matter what your income is or what assets you have. Click here for more information.

Earthquake insurance advisory: Temporary Accommodation
The Insurance Council of New Zealand advise people who have uninhabitable homes due to earthquake damage to contact their insurer directly for help with temporary accommodation.

All Te Puni Kōkiri regional offices are open and operating post-earthquake on Monday, 14 November, except our offices in Christchurch, Invercargill and Nelson who are assisting the efforts in the affected regions. Our regions offices’ contacts can be found here.

Te Puni Kōkiri national office in Wellington, 143 Lambton Quay is closed and re-opens on Monday, 21 November. If you need to contact us before then, please email us at info@tpk.govt.nz.

Te Puni Kōkiri support in affected regions
Te Puni Kōkiri regions are supporting the affected regions. Christchurch staff are providing on-site support in Kaikōura alongside Ngāi Tahu and Civil Defence. Staff from the Nelson office are providing on-site support with the efforts in Blenheim.
Te Puni Kōkiri are also looking at what further support could be provided in the affected regions.
