Kōrero Mai e te Whānau

Inspirational insights of whānau who have completed a Whānau Ora plan for the future are showcased in a research report to be published in June.

‘Kōrero Mai e te Whānau – Whānau Stories of Integration, Innovation and Engagement’ documents the experiences of 12 whānau who have engaged in the first stage of the Whānau Integration, Innovation and Engagement (WIIE) Fund.

Commissioned by Te Puni Kōkiri, the case studies identify key factors that support positive whānau development as well as individual and collective outcomes.

Researchers Moana Eruera, Maree Tukukino, Sharlene Maoate-Davis, Lisa King and Terry Dobbs paid tribute to the participants for openly sharing their stories and solutions.

The whānau plans include goals ranging from healthy lifestyles and housing assistance to economic development and education, training and employment as well as prioritising the safety and wellbeing of mokopuna.

Lead researcher Moana Eruera says there is strong evidence that the WIIE Fund is providing a platform for whānau transformation.

“For most whānau, engagement with the WIIE Fund is a timely opportunity and process to strengthen relationships, facilitate discussions and healing, and consolidate their collective vision and priorities into a forward-focused plan,” Moana says.

“We hope that these inspirational insights encourage other New Zealanders to embark on their own journey of transformation.”

The research report will be available on the website of Te Puni Kōkiri www.tpk.govt.nz
