Consultation on Geographic Name Proposals

  • Date: 05 November 2018 to 05 February 2019

The New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa is seeking submissions on four geographic name proposals across New Zealand.


Consultation on the following proposals to correct the spelling of local authorities names are open for one month, from 5 November 2018 to 5 December 2018:

- Otorohanga District to Ōtorohanga District, for the local authority district

- Manawatu-Wanganui Region to Manawatū-Whanganui Region, for the local authority region

Consultation on these populated place name proposals are open for three months, from 5 November 2018 to 5 February 2019:

- Benneydale to a dual name, Te Māniaiti / Benneydale, for the small township southeast of Te Kuiti

- to assign Wesley as an official name and define its extent, for the suburb in Auckland.
