Tainui Kapa Haka Regional Competitions 2018

On the 14th of April, kapa haka groups from all around the Tainui Rohe will gather at Claudelands Arena for the Tainui Waka Kapa Haka Regional Competition.


Tainui Waka Kapa Haka Regional Competition 2018! This one day event features some of the finest traditional Māori Performing Art groups throughout Aotearoa.

Attracting approximately 4500 attendees on the day and many more through the live-stream, this bi-ennial event radiates excellence in Māori Performing Arts, Māori Language and Māori Customs.

On stage competition is fierce with each group competing to secure themselves a spot at the Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival 2019 – the pinnacle event for traditional Māori Performing Arts.

Each group’s performance (approx 25mins) is the product of months of hard work and commitment; practices consisting of perfecting sound and movement to bring together an awe inspiring experience!
