Summary sheet of the 2009 Māori Language Attitudes Survey

Surveys of Attitudes Toward the Māori Language

In order to measure progress towards achieving the fifth goal of the Māori Language Strategy, the Government has commissioned four telephone surveys of attitudes towards the Māori language (in 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2009). Each of these surveys had a sample size of approximately 1500 respondents. The surveys measured knowledge, attitudes and general values about the Māori language among both Māori and non-Māori respondents.
