Year 1 students who attended ECE

As shown in Graph 2, 85 percent of all Māori Year 1 students in 2000 had attended ECE prior to beginning school. By 2007 this figure had risen to 91 percent. In the same time frame, prior participation rates for the total population rose from 91 percent to 95 percent. While participation rates for Māori are lower than for the total population, they are increasing at a faster rate.
