Te Waipounamu kapa haka team Te Kohinga Haka took second place honours on their debut at the National Kapa Haka Super 12 Festival in Turanganui a Kiwa earlier this year.
“The result is a great achievement and a boost for kapa haka tutors and performers alike in Te Waipounamu,” says Waitaha Cultural Council’s Nikora Nitro. Te Kohinga Kapa is a collective of the top five senior groups who are active in the Waitaha region.
Te Puni Kōkiri is currently supporting the Waitaha Cultural Council to undertake a cultural needs analysis.
