Consultation on Geographic Place Name proposals

The New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa has opened public consultation on eight proposals to alter the names of geographic features around the country.


The New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (NZGB) wants to hear your views on proposals to alter eight place names around New Zealand.

Consultation on these proposals located in the Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana are open until 28 July 2017:

- Eliot Ridge to Eliott Ridge, - McLaurin Range to Maclaurin Ridge, - Marshal Range to Marshall Ridge, - Mount Eliot to Mount Eliott, - Mount Marion to Mount Marianne.

Consultation on this proposed alteration for a feature in Otago, near Lake Mahinerangi is also open until 28 July 2017:

- Lammerlaw Stream to Lammerlaw Creek

Consultation on these two proposed alteration are open for three months, until 22 September 2017:

- Omiha to Rocky Bay, for a locality (populated place) on Waiheke Island, - Castle Rock to Motutere / Castle Rock, for a rocky feature inland from Coromandel.
