Māori Trustee Supports Stand Alone Agency

Wednesday, 23 July 2008

The Māori Trustee fully supports the recommendations for a stand alone agency appropriately funded by the Crown to carry out core Māori Trustee services to beneficial owners.

For the last eighteen months the Māori Trustee has been working with Te Puni Kōkiri on the proposed formation of Māori Business Aoteroa New Zealand (MBANZ).

Earlier today John Paki, in his capacity as Māori Trustee, appeared in front of the Māori Affairs Select Committee to talk to the written submission he made as the Māori Trustee on the proposal to establish the Māori Trustee as a stand alone agency and the formation of MBANZ.

At the select committee Mr Paki re-iterated his support for the stand alone agency, his agreement in principle for the proposed MBANZ and restated his view that more work was needed to occur before the entity was established.
