The core purpose of Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry of Māori Development, is to support Government to strengthen Treaty of Waitangi partnerships and facilitate iwi, hapū and whānau Māori to succeed at home and globally.

The Regional Partnerships Te Puni is responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining robust relationships with iwi, hapū and whānau Māori at a national and regional level
  • Developing and maintaining other partnerships in the regions including with local government agencies
  • Using those relationships to gather and disseminate information between government and iwi, hapū and whānau Māori
  • Contributing to the development of Te Puni Kōkiri’s investment strategy and ensuring its implementation

Te Puni Kōkiri is seeking to appoint to 3 new positions in the Te Tai Hauāuru Regional Office located in Porirua.

1 - Regional Senior Advisor (RP 088)

2 - Regional Advisor (RP 091) and (RP 086)

These 3 positions report to the Regional Manager, Te Tai Hauāuru and all successful applicants will require a clean and current driver’s license. 


Regional Senior Advisor – Porirua (RP 088)

  • The Senior Advisor will work with agencies, organisations and providers to assist them to improve their outcomes for Māori
  • Acts as an effective conduit for information both into and out of Māori communities to support Māori initiatives
  • Manages and analyses information at a local level on Māori views, aspirations and experiences, to contribute to Te Puni Kōkiri policy thinking
  • Assists whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisation’s and communities to develop and implement initiatives that will enable them to achieve long-term economic and social development
  • Manages local level contractual arrangements and is a leader in the relationships held with stakeholders
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to Advisors in their region.
  • Informs investment decisions in partnership with the Investment Team and policy colleagues.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Extensive experience working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisation’s and Māori communities
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
    • the use of project management disciplines,
    • the development of complex business cases or
    • Programme management
  • An advanced understanding of government, the public service and public sector processes.
  • Understanding of the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi to the work being undertaken
  • Excellent communication skills including a conversational level of te Reo Maori
  • Ability to identify, build and actively manage significant relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences
  • Demonstrated proactivity in achieving actual results, leading and developing teams.

Regional Advisor – Porirua (RP 088) & (RP 086)

We are looking for an intelligent and innovative Advisor who has -

  • Experience in working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisation’s and Māori communities;
  • Understanding and knows about government and public sector processes including how and why government can work together with regional communities;
  • Worked with communities and government agencies;
  • Experience in local contractual arrangements and leading relationships with stakeholders;
  • Understanding of the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi to the work being undertaken;
  • Proven effective use of project management disciplines to support work;
  • Understanding the relevance of the treaty of Waitangi to the work being undertaken;
  • Excellent communication skills including a conversational level of te reo Maori; and
  • Ability to identify, build and actively manage significant relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences
