This report investigates the health of the Māori language in Te Taitokerau in 2006. For the purposes of this report, Te Taitokerau is defined as the Northland Region encompassing the Far North, Whāngarei and Kaipara District Councils. This is one of eight reports on the health of the Māori language at a regional level. This report is divided into five main sections: a brief history of the Māori language in Te Taitokerau; Māori language knowledge and proficiency in the region; use of the Māori language within the whānau; the provision of Māori language services; and summary and conclusion.
