This report investigates the health of the Māori language in Tāmaki-Makau-Rau in 2006. For the purposes of this report, Tāmaki-Makau-Rau is defined as the broader Auckland region.This is one of eight reports on the health of the Māori language at a regional level. This report is divided into five main sections: a brief history of the Māori language in Tāmaki-Makau-Rau; Māori language knowledge and proficiency in the region; use of the Māori language within the whānau; the provision of Māori language services; and summary and conclusion.
