Encouraging tamariki and rangatahi Māori to participate and achieve in science and technology was the main the kaupapa of a four-day science wānanga held in Hawke’s Bay.
The wānanga was a joint initiative between Pukemokimoki marae and the University of Victoria in Wellington. A team of 10 scientists and students presented the kaupapa earlier this year at the marae to more than 60 people.
Topics included physics, DNA, bio monitoring, conservation, technology and more. The wānanga was also supported by Te Puni Kōkiri to expose rangatahi to scientific opportunities and pathways for further education.
