Infrastructure

The Māori Economic Taskforce and the Te Huarahi Tika Trust (Māori Spectrum Trust) have submitted to the Government a Broadband Investment proposal that seeks commitment to include Māori, iwi and hapu organisations in the priority areas for the infrastructure roll-out over the next six years.

Key Points

  • Māori have the networks and are upskilling to make a greater contribution to the New Zealand economy.

  • Research on the Māori innovation base; opportunities and benefits for pursuing innovation, science and research outcomes for Māori economic development; and generating scenarios and possibilities for Māori to pursue research and development and innovation outcomes. This positions Māori to contribute to infrastructure projects.

  • Improved support for existing Māori business networks for small to medium sized enterprises will allow Māori to pool resources.

  • Inter-iwi collaboration strategies and projects.

  • Increasing Māori participation within the science and research communities by working with Māori students.
