Our Kaupapa and Goals

Kaupapa

The Taskforce’s foundations are based on the following kaupapa:

Working together:

  • investing in Māori
  • with government and government working with Māori
  • leveraging international networks.

Enhancing education, training and skills:

  • by investing in training and skills for Māori
  • with a focus on rangatahi.

Fostering enterprise by:

  • supporting research and development
  • reducing regulatory costs
  • enhancing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by focusing on increasing productivity.

Growing existing resources:

  • using them more effectively
  • diversifying where possible.

Goals

The kaupapa outlined above guides the work being done to achieve the three main goals the MET is working towards.

  1. Support Māori through the economic recession by promoting skills training and education, enhancing resilience in communities, and protecting or growing employment opportunities.
     
  2. Strategic economic development opportunities for Māori beyond the immediate economic climate by identifying areas where Māori can lift their participation in the economy and unlock their potential to ensure that Māori can take advantage of and be a driver for economic recovery and future growth.
     
  3. Promote and use kaupapa Māori and Māori structures as drivers of prosperity.
