About Us

Te Puni Kōkiri was established in 1992 under the Ministry of Māori Development Act 1991. Our broad functions under the Act are:

  • To promote increases in levels of achievement by Māori in education, training and employment, health and economic resource development
  • To monitor and liaise with other government departments and agencies to ensure their services for Māori are adequate.
